Good Morning brothers and sisters.
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Matt 6:34-35 (NKJV)
The phrase sounds easy enough, seek first the kingdom of God. In these verses Jesus is saying that God is always ready for us to find Him. No matter how difficult the situation he is always willing to be found. Ever had a sweet tooth craving? Did you open cabinet doors or dresser drawers in search of something that would satisfy it? God’s desire is for us to search for Him. Secondly Jesus is sharing with us our need to do two things. Seek God and to do that before we enter into worry, anxiety, and fear. In essence first. To seek God’s kingdom means we have made a conscience decision to turn toward God instead of anxiety or worry. With this in mind, how do we search for God?
Prayer
Be joyful always; pray continually. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17 (NIV)
Prayer is important. Jesus spoke to the Father often, relaying that importance on to us. He prayed with many people and in groups, but He also spent time alone with God. And during those solitary moments with His Father, we note an intimate communion between the two of them, that opportunity for intimacy through prayer exists for us, too.
Bible Study
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. Psalms 119:105 (NIV)
When we have read and know the Bible and the promises of God, we are strengthened to stand firm against sin. Because we have spent time with Him through His Word, our relationship deepens.
Worship
Have you ever worshiped in your living room, outside, or driving in your car? This time of intimacy, simply recognizing God as the Almighty and honoring Him for who He is, ushers us into His presence. Maybe you are at a loss for words, try reading and praying a Psalm to God. The Psalms are full of worship. Consider a hymn or other worship songs as well.
Bible Verse Memorization
Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Eph 6:17 (NIV)
One way to combat the temptation to worry or grow anxious is to know God’s Word. The Bible helps us understand what is right in God’s eyes. The memorized word of God is the only offensive weapon listed in our spiritual weapons.
Thanksgiving & Praise
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. Psalms 100:4 (NIV)
When times are tough, when they are good, and especially when we are tempted to worry or grow anxious, remember. Run to the Father. He is trustworthy. Seek God above all else. His word is true. Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and do not forget the promise in the verse’s final portion: and all these things shall be added unto you.
God is good all the time. God Bless you,
Pastor Dennis
