Co-Heirs with Christ
Good morning Saints,
Now if we are children, then we are heirs – heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. Romans 8:17 (NIV)
The Jews of Paul’s day were convinced that they were the Lord’s inheritance, and that as such they would inherit the Promised Land. Paul, speaking to believing Jews, explains that God’s promise includes all who believe in Christ both Jews and Gentiles. Because we are God’s children, we are his heirs and will share his treasures. The Jews thought that their inheritance was only to be the Promised Land. Instead, our inheritance is another “land”; it is everything of God. His love, our relationship with Him, His blessings and eternal life with Him.
We are God’s children only because of Christ’s suffering on our behalf. As believers, therefore, if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.
1. In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. 2 Tim 3:12 (NIV)
2. We will enjoy our inheritance only in relationship with Christ.
If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. Gal 3:29 (NIV)
What is this inheritance? Some of our inheritance we enjoy now and some we will receive in glory.
He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:5-7 (NIV)
I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” Lam 3:24 (NIV)
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. Rev 21:3 (NIV)
…through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. Romans 5:2 (NIV)
…but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. Heb 1:2 (NIV)
Every born again believer is co-heir with Christ and will receive by divine grace the full inheritance Christ receives by His divine right. Everything of God will be ours through the death, resurrection, and saving grace of Jesus Christ. Praise the Lord!
God’s blessing to you,
Pastor Dennis
